Study of association of dry eye with diabetes mellitus

Background: Aim of the study was to evaluate tear status in diabetes mellitus (DM) patient. Methods: This a prospective observational case control study. Eighty patients with DM aged from 50 80 years were compared group normal healthy age matched group. A general ophthalmological check-up performed. The main points comparison subjective complaints, objective findings on basic Schirmer test, break-up time, Rose Bengal test. Results: results show that 27.5% all diabetic subjects accompanied dry eye symptoms, as against 6.25% mean BUT value 15.5s and Standard Error 0.20. In 14s standard error 0.23. Basic test 9.50 mm SE 0.268. 15 0.405. score group, (score <3) found 80% abnormal >3) 20%. 93.75% case. Dry percentage 11.25% had definitive eye, 16.25% cases possible 72.5% no eye. 2.50% 3.75% Conclusions: shows is associated DM.
